Meet the Founder
Tasha White
Founder & Executive Director, HELP Carolina, Inc.
Tasha White is a lifelong resident of Gastonia, North Carolina, and a passionate advocate for housing equity, community empowerment, and grassroots leadership. With more than 20 years of experience in community outreach, mental health services, and nonprofit administration, Tasha has devoted her life to helping vulnerable individuals and families break the cycle of poverty.
In 2022, she founded HELP Carolina (Helping Everyone Leave Poverty) to serve those experiencing homelessness in Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland Counties with dignity, compassion, and lasting solutions. Under her leadership, HELP Carolina has already helped over 160 individuals, secured critical grant funding, and built a growing network of community and faith-based partners.
Tasha is also the visionary behind the Gastonia EbonyFest Juneteenth Festival, which draws thousands each year to celebrate Black culture, history, and resilience. She currently serves on the Gaston County Community Impact Council (WellCaWellCare of NC) and the Gaston County Homeless Prevention Committee.
Tasha is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a 2006 graduate of Pfeiffer University (with dual degrees in Business Management and Healthcare Administration), and a devoted mother and grandmother.

Our History
HELP Carolina, Inc. was founded in 2022 by longtime community advocate Tasha White, who recognized a deep need for compassionate, community-rooted support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland Counties.
What began as a grassroots effort to fill gaps in the local homeless response system quickly evolved into a nonprofit organization committed to housing navigation, case management, and barrier removal.
In its first two years, HELP Carolina:
- Served over 160 individuals across more than 70 households
- Helped more than 40 families secure permanent, stable housing
- Became the first Gaston County nonprofit to receive the SECU Mission Development Grant
- Was recognized as the first WellCare of NC Community Champion for Gaston County
- Formed strong partnerships with churches, health providers, and local leaders
HELP Carolina continues to grow—strengthening our impact through strategic grants, partner collaborations, and a commitment to Helping Everyone Leave Poverty.
What We Do
HELP Carolina provides housing navigation, case management, and critical support services for people experiencing homelessness. Through outreach, advocacy, and community partnerships, we help individuals overcome barriers and achieve long-term stability—so no one walks this journey alone.
